I was just driving back home after a movie with a friend yesterday at around 8, I was just 2 mins away from my place when a cop car behind asked me to pull over. I did, I got out not knowing what was wrong, then one of the cops asked me why the car is really loud. I told them that the exhaust was changed, but I was switching back to stock on the 5th ( have an appointment with the garage for this). But, his attitude just changed after that and he told me " Just lie to your friends, I know what people do with their cars and exhausts". I again told him that I was not denying that it was changed, but i was going to have it removed. Anyway, he then asks my friend and me for our IDs and registration. Unfortunately, I lost my registration so I only had a copy so he made a bigger issue about that and said more fine, black points and things like that, I did not say anything because it is my fault. Then he said that he is keeping my license, wrote a fine, I asked how much it was he told me "They will tell you when you go to pay it". Will give me 12 black points for the exhaust and that my car has to be checked by Muroor and things like that, will be impounded for one month, etc. And then he was laughing pointing at me and making a scene saying that I will have 16 black points in total including the one for not having an original registration card. I really tried my best to reason with him, but he told me something that really pissed me off. He said I am an expat and I am under the rule of the country, I accept this, then he goes ahead and says that if I was a Sheikh I could possibly get out of this without any problems, but I am not. My only real question is, is this all fair, and is there any way I can complain about this ? I dont mind being fined for the exhaust and registration but 16 black points and all that racial profiling is just taking it far, right ?

Way to go Dubai, with all the things that has been happening here you would expect them to be kissing your ass, instead they end up doing just the opposite. It all the more just makes my decision to leave this dump of a place even more easier. :finger:

bad call arjun! now the local tbreakers here will start calling you a liar because we are all treated as equals here :wacky:

not much you can do unless you know someone in the police force or higher up. the cops here are arrogant mofos who barely do any work. this is the real Dubai, even the locals themselves discriminate between each other! if you try to complain, it will be your word vs a cop's word, it's tough to win these cases in the west, you will lose it here!

^^ Treated equally my ass, excuse my french. I dont want to contest the fine. 16 black points for something that is hardly loud compared to the stuff I've heard. Of course the tone is deeper than stock but its in no way disturbing unless you really floor the gas and take it into a high RPM range, I dont do that because I knew a cop would pull me over for it. Anyway, I know there's nothing I can do about it, guess the jeep is going in for a 30 day vacation :mad2:

Arjun, relax, you don't know if he was BS'ing or not. But he's a fcuking wanker, no doubt. Guess he didn't have a camel for the weekend, beyotch. But no, I doubt you can challenge this. Sorry bud.

Im relaxed, I am not worried about the fines or about the car, at most I will have to switch back to the stock exhaust, big deal, let em shove the one I take off up theirs. I know there is no point challenging it and I dont have any spare time to play with the wankers so I'll just shut up and see what happens.

Just really disgusted about how he handled the situation, I would never have cared if he just gave the fine, said khallas and go. He asked me how old I was, and when I said I was 20 he started treating me like a baby, he said that ah if i give blag boint now, after some more blag boint your license kanzel !

It's sad what happened to you. But you're at fault here.

First off, you know that is Dubai and you know exactly how the cops of Dubai are.

Knowing this, why would you install an exhaust which goes beyond the legitimate noise decibel?

I'm pretty sure you knew about the exhaust before even installing it.

When you do something against the law in Dubai the cops there think that you are challenging their authority especially if you're an immigrant.

Yeah sure there are other exhausts louder than yours but that's an excuse the Dubai cops would not accept. You have to agree with whatever the cops deem right.

When they told you to pull over they didn't know you're an immigrant until they saw your face. So when they decided to pull you over it was because there was in fact something wrong with your exhaust.

As a matter of fact I wouldn't be surprised if they initially thought you were local because the kind of car you drive looks completely local lol .

they could find out you're not local by getting your rego info. not sure about here but this could be attained by a cop using a laptop/cellphone/whatever.

Hitender, I am not challenging the laws here. I very well know that you could run into trouble if you have a loud exhaust. Here is the funny part, mine sounds lot less louder than your regular v8's. Anyway, the point is not about my car, or the exhaust, I am pretty sure he knew exactly who I was, its easy, I had the top taken off so he could have spotted me from a distance. Once again, I don't mind paying a fine for it or if the car is impounded due to this. All I am saying is that things could have been handled much better, there is a thing called give and take respect, I never raised my voice or told him that I did not do anything wrong, I accepted that it was my fault, was there any need to go ahead and taunt me after that ? No. We'll see you singing a different tune when it happens to you.

@SS, they can find each and every detail about you with their laptop, by just searching for the name, same goes for the car.

The fun part is that they have to deal with people with their arms stretched out after rear-eding a car 'I didn't do it officer', as if the car reversed directly onto them in full speed. So they really do approach everyone without much respect in the first place. It sets the mood, so to speak.
The situation goes for a toss when its driving in the wee hours of the night, with a moderately loud exhaust. Whether you were polite or not is not the question in the first place.
Tons of people have got fines for virtually doing nothing wrong. Even parking in a bloody sand dune without obstruction leads to a fine without you doing nothing to anyone. So yeah, this is not much when you consider other horror stories.

Sorry to hear about your accident Arjun, but this happens very commonly, yet I have to admit that not all officers are as bad as the one you encountered, most of the ones I've seen are gentlemen and I respect that.

Is that a fact you got off the RTA website or did someone in Syria tell you that?

Locals hate all arabic accents except theirs and so would any other person, can you compare the accent of Lebanese arabic to theirs? It's like speaking Dutch to someone French.

"The most satisfying feel you can get in the gym is the "pump". It's as satisfying to me as "cumming" is, y'know? As having sex with a woman and cumming. So can you believe how much I am in heaven? I'm like getting the feeling of cumming in the gym, getting the feeling of cumming at home, and cumming backstage when I pump up and when I pose out in front of 5000 viewers, I get the same feeling, so I'm cumming day and night! I mean it's terrific...right?" - Arnold Schwarzenegger

i was called to a police station once cause one of the captain's 'friends' was driving in the fast lane on the highway at the speed of 100 (where the limit is 120). So i kept flashing him and he wouldnt move. we were approaching a radar and this dude suddenly brakes (even though hes travelling at the speed of 100), making me brake. A beemer behind me almost hit me and this dude in front of me has no clue of whats going on. so i start honking and flashing like mad and then overtake him from the right. While overtaking i saw he was on the phone. he glanced at me and i gave him 'the look' . 5 mins later i get a call from the cops to visit them at 10.30 in the night for dangerous driving and if i dont ill get 12 black boints and one month car imbound.
When i go to the station , the captain came at 12 called me in his cabin and started shouting saying people like me cause accidents and put the emaratis lives in danger (you have no idea how much i had to stop myself from laughing here)and crap like that. So i asked him what i did wrong. He said i was speeding. I told him if i was speeding i wouldve been caught by the radar... any radar. Then he said no i was there in the car with my friend. Then i told him the whole story of what actually happened. And his face was worth watching. I still ended up getting 200 dhs fine and 4 black points. And the other dude got nothing cause hes the friend of the cabtain.

Guys Guys,

Simple one word answers this........

DUBAI!

I got fined the other week for pushing in, but guess what I didn't. I merge with every other car 300-400metres before white line. 200AED fine, Best way to explain this UAE is in trouble after the whole recession. UAE needs to make as much money from you before you can make a move out of here. As other people have said, its a shame that they have resorted to this since its just going to make more people leave. I love the UAE and have spent 16 years of my life here. Just the cons seem to be out waying the pros nowa days.

Welcome to middle earth dude! I mean... middle east.

This place rose from nothing and will very soon go back down to nothing when expats have no reason to be here. (I hope it's real soon).

This same shit happens in Oman too. Nothing anyone can do about it.

The fools don't realize that in a time of recession and unemployment, there is little positive press to negate the bad press. So here they go continuing their stupid ways, alienating investers, employees and basically anyone with a brain and in the end, you will still see them survive but Dubai will be at the bottom with the other worst rated cities in the world. Services have already been affected, we are buying new appliances and both the salesmen and suppliers are unscrupulous idiots who can't tell the truth or even sell a decent product if their lives depended on it!

This is why I am surprised. They should be treating anyone who is still staying behind like royalty instead they are trying to demoralize us. I mean, there was no need for any of that mess to take place, just give the fine, explain how much it is, where to pay, etc, bye bye.I really don't care about the fine because it is obviously my fault. This place is going to the dumps, that's for sure. I have yet another incident happen on Friday. About 8 of my friends and me headed down to the Jumeriah beach park for a swim, we just got into the beach area and had hardly made it to the changing rooms, when a "CID" dressed like trash confronted us. I was already in my shorts ready for the swim, so he asked the guys still in their causal clothes for their IDs and asked them to follow him to the office. It was really insulting, everyone at the beach was staring. On the way to the office he picked up more of guys just hanging around there in casuals. Once they reached the office, they were made to wait for over 30 minutes. A couple of other officials went in and started calling them in one by one. They were interrogated like as though they had commited a crime. They were asked questions like where are you from, where did you study, what all countries have you visited in the past few years, and things like that. And they were made to sign a document, which was completely in Arabic. When my friend asked what it is for, the cid said that it was just a agreement saying that they would not repeat the mistake again, it is just a warning. Forcibly, they had to sign this document, that no one has any idea what it is about. All this because they had not yet changed into beachwear. What the **** is the changing room there for then ? The morons completely wasted about 2 hours of our time. :laff:

This is a typical scenario here nowadays!

The other day i was driving back from work at 140km/h, and a nissan "batrol" idiot started tailgating me and flashing me from behind.
I was on the fast lane, there were cars infront of me and cars on my right side... where the **** do you want me to go? drive over the cars in the front?
So i did what anyone else would do, i didnt do shit and kept driving in my lane.
He suddenly overtakes me from the right side, and wants to shove his nissan patrol in the 1 meter between me and the car infront!!
He almost crashed into me, and then into the car infront of him.
i got really pissed off, he was expecting me to open up the gap between me and the car in the front so he can squeeze in, ofcourse i didnt, why would i?
he got really pissed off and stared steering his car into mine like he wanted to crash into me, and then started following me everywhere, then he pulled his head out of the window and started yelling and swearing and asking me to stop.
What a ****ing moron!!

I have noticed that locals would never give you the way even if they are driving at 60km/h on the fast lane, specially if you are an expat. That will make them feel insulted.
